The People & Culture department at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Manager, Faculty & Staff Relations
As a primary liaison between Mount Saint Vincent University and its employee groups, the Manager, Faculty & Staff Relations is a critical role for the University and its commitment to positive labour and employee relations. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, People & Culture, and working closely with the Vice-President Academic and Provost, as well as the Director of Human Resources, the individual is an active participant in the negotiation and administration of five collective agreements as well as employment guidelines for non-unionized employees. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with union leaders and representatives, including administering grievance procedures, providing interpretation of collective agreements to managers and employees, and ensuring university compliance with collective agreement obligations.
The incumbent will support the Vice-President Academic & Provost and the Coordinator, Academic Affairs in the application of the full-time and part-time faculty collective agreements for recruitment and reappointment, tenure, and promotion processes. The role will also lead training and development initiatives for front-line managers, Deans, department chairs, and other leaders related to managing in a unionized environment.
The Manager of Faculty & Staff Relations provides strategic advice to senior administration, and will help ensure that the university approaches labour relations with all of its union partners in a consistent and strategic manner.
We encourage you to apply if you have an undergraduate degree in a related field along with 8+ years of experience working in human resources within a unionized environment. Specialization or training in labour/industrial relations would be considered an asset. An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting collective agreements and policies, will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form relationships at all levels of the institution and with union representatives, and will demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of labour trends and legislation. We are looking for someone who is highly organized and comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and has an aptitude for, or previous experience, using business enterprise systems such as Colleague and Sharepoint.
Classification: Full-Time MPA Level 6 Position
Salary: $78,814 per annum [Step Progression: $78,814 to $95,890]
