Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide clinical lead social work services in the Children and Women's Health program. The Social Worker III must be skilled in psychosocial assessment, counselling with individuals and families, case management, the Supportive Services for Children and Youth framework, and criteria and support of youth and family through intake and navigation. The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team. The Social Worker will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.

This position reports to the Division Manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for integrity and professional practice issues.

Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.

Regularly uses fine finger/precision work on a computer.

Job Qualifications

Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.

Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers (NLASW) is required.

Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working as a Social Worker with children, adolescents and their families in a healthcare setting is required.

Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.

Knowledge of intake and assessment for pediatric programs within children's health and community programs.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development and factors influencing development.

Knowledge of internal Eastern Urban and community-based resources.

Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.

Knowledge of case management.

Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.

Exhibited strong program development and evaluation skills.

Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.

Exhibited strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to write proposals, develop and evaluate clinical projects.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and patient needs.

A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
