The Senior Manager, Compliance and AML Data contributes to the overall success of the Compliance and AML Data team globally, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. All activities conducted must comply with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the operationalization of AML Data and connect into AML initiatives to ensure the data requirements for AML businesses, including Transaction Monitoring and Client Risk Rating, are delivered in adherence with AML data quality standards.
  • Be responsible for the implementation of data management activities and data governance controls.
  • Lead and manage end-to-end data enablement initiatives, ensuring projects are successfully delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with requirements, including but not limited to:
    • Data profiling, source systems data quality assessment, issue root cause analysis, and investigation.
    • Ensure requirements are clearly, accurately, and thoroughly documented and understood.
    • Conduct data mapping activities, Business Acceptance Testing (BAT), and Post Implementation Validation (PIV).
    • Work with AML stakeholders and technology partners to ensure data enablement is conducted in line with business requirements.
  • Contribute to the mobilization of AML and Compliance Data domains by leading the implementation activities included in the scope of the respective domains, such as:
    • Identification of data elements and critical data elements (CDEs) and CDE registration.
    • Identification and registration of data sources.
    • Documentation and validation of Data Lineage and Data Flow Diagrams.
    • Definition of data requirements, including business, technical, and operational metadata.
    • Implementation of data quality controls and processes and data quality issue management.
  • Drive end-to-end Data Quality processes, including root cause analysis, escalation, and resolution of data quality issues for Compliance Data.
  • Identify, lead, and drive opportunities for process efficiencies in the data governance processes to implementation.
  • Drive Data Working Group meetings with Business Process Owners, Data Custodians, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead the BAU data exception reporting processes, including the identification of possible controls and the implementation of visualizations, dashboards, and data reconciliation. Participate in the investigation, assessment, and remediation of any identified issues.
  • Partner and work closely with Internal Audit during testing and issue investigation. Support, plan, and execute the delivery of required tasks to ensure closure of any outstanding issues.
  • Identify and facilitate the reporting of Compliance and AML key risk indicators (KRIs) to identify patterns and insights that will improve effectiveness and minimize risks to the bank.
  • Ensure timely and consistent reporting is provided to AML and Compliance business partners on all initiatives pertaining to data governance coverage. Develop insightful analysis from the reporting to support sustainable compliance coverage for Compliance and AML processes.
  • Contribute to the development and training of other team members.
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Data Office to ensure compliance with data management policies and standards.
  • Drive and maintain the data governance coverage roadmap for all value streams and jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate closely with IT teams of AML and Compliance and with the respective business functions to ensure alignment on priorities, scheduling, and execution for data governance coverage and change management initiatives.
  • Support day-to-day activities of projects, engaging with internal technology and business stakeholders and fostering collaboration across functional groups to improve the speed and quality of project delivery.
  • Continually acquire and enhance knowledge on data management, data retention, analytics, and technology strategies, policies, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements to provide effective support on Compliance and AML data governance coverage.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or any related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of working experience in complex data solutions, preferably in Financial Institutions.
  • Strong technical skills, including over 5 years of working experience in SQL.
  • Extensive working experience with data, including data mapping, analysis, conducting proof of concepts, and data quality issues investigation.
  • Working experience and familiarity with data related to Transaction Monitoring business rules is preferred.
  • Spanish language skills are strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience leading a small team of direct reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working experience with Power BI.
  • A firm understanding of Data Governance Practices and Principles.
  • Strong ability to influence and communicate with stakeholders across functions, business units, IT, Ops, and executives.
  • Excellent communication skills, including preparing materials and presenting at the executive level.
  • Leadership and project management experience, including experience in building strategic roadmaps.
  • Must be curious, proactive, results-oriented, customer-focused, and attentive to detail.
