Who you are
You have a worked as a Vascular Surgeon for a minimum of 1 year.
You possess a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate studies (residency) in the field of General Surgery with a focus in Vascular Surgery.
You must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
The Department of General/Vascular Surgery requires that members practicing Vascular Surgery be a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with subspecialty certification in Vascular Surgery from an accredited program to be eligible for active membership. Candidates with Royal College eligibility may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
What you will do
Reporting to the General/Vascular Surgery Department Head and the Medical Director for the area, the Vascular Surgeon collaborates with other Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered, Nurses, and other Allied Medical Staff.
A typical weekly schedule will include:
- Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients.
- Provide inpatient care including daily rounds on patients.
- Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending staff.
- Provide telephone consultation to colleagues.
- Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students.
- Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate.
- Participate in departmental and other appropriate Surgical Program committees.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
- Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
- Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
- Participate in the on-call rota of the Department of General/Vascular Surgery.
- Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values, and strategic directions.
- Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be required by the Head of the Department of General/Vascular Surgery, the Chief of Surgery, the Chief of Staff, and/or Medical Director.
