Job Description:

Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador (RNL) is a province wide, not for profit organization established in 1971 to promote the values and benefits of recreation. We act as the provincial voice promoting and fostering the spirit and practice of recreation for all and provide a full range of services to enhance our members' ability to deliver recreation throughout the province. We work collaboratively with our communities, members, and connected associations to make change together - helping build a province of engaged communities where all people embrace the benefits of recreation to enhance their quality of life.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Recreation Specialist is responsible for overall planning, organization and delivery of inclusive recreation services of the Association. This position's primary responsibility will be around supporting the Parasport and Recreation for Persons with a Disability Initiative. The Initiative aims to increase opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in parasport and recreation through education, awareness and capacity building.

The jobholder is typically responsible for:

  • Coordinate the Parasport and Recreation for Persons with a Disability Initiative
  • Provide operational support to the Steering Committee.
  • Complete actions related to the yearly work plan
  • Prepare reports on program progress for the Steering Committee
  • Coordinate the Parasport and Recreation for Persons with a Disability funding program.
  • Engage with stakeholder and partners in the recreation and parasport sector
  • Set up, attend, and record minutes for meetings as required (committee meetings).
  • Report to Recreation NL Board of Director's on program progress
  • Provide social media content to the Communication Coordinator
  • Contribute to the Annual General Meeting & Conference planning, providing support in the areas as needed
  • Prepare communication for Recreation NL's monthly e-news
  • All other duties as required by the Executive Director and Manager of Programming.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Diploma or degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation and/or kinesiology or another related educational program.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in working in a recreation and/or office setting
  • Effective communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in using office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Sound customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven flexibility to adapt to frequent changes and demands.
