Qualifications
:
- Completion of high school
- Graduation from an approved Medical Radiation Technologist (3 years duration) Training Program with a Diploma of X-Ray Technology
- Current registration with Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, (C.A.M.R.T), which must be maintained current at all times
- A Minimum five (5) years full time experience as a Diagnostic Technologist in a Diagnostic Imaging Department, with at least three (3) years of the past five years working experience in a CT Department in a CT Technologist position
- Must be willing to successfully complete CT C.A.M.R.T Certificate and other CT training courses and ongoing participation in further education courses, in a time period acceptable to the employer
- Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as good presentation and writing skills are required
- Strong communication and leadership skills are essential; must be able to answer questions from staff, and other stakeholders concerning CT procedures and processes
- Experience in human resources, financial management, change management and quality initiatives would be an asset
- Strong computer skills are required.
Duties (Included but not limited to)
:
- Provides and maintains a high level of technical expertise on a daily basis performing a wide range of complex and specialized examinations i.e. Pulmonary embolism, Cardiac Angiography, Virtual Colonography, Femoral run off, Carotid angiography, Secondary reconstruction, etc;
- Performs general radiographic procedures including general radiology, and Fluoroscopic Radiography, and other specialized procedures as required;
- Monitors the Radiation Safety of the CT Clients/Patients, CT Staff , and any other staff working in the CT Department so that it is kept to a minimum, and to apply A.L.A.R.A at all times within the CT Section;
- Consults with Radiologist when appropriate. Provides an informed opinion to assist in the management of the patient. Communicates significant medical and technical findings to appropriate personnel;
- Demonstrates creative independent thinking and problem analysis. Assesses the complexity of a patient's condition and have the knowledge, skills and judgment to improvise standard CT techniques/practices using A.L.A.R.A at all times;
- Will also be an active part of the Diagnostic Imaging Department X-ray On Call Schedule and rotation. Will do orientation on any new X-ray Equipment and departmental processes in Main Diagnostic Imaging Department at LHC;
- Ensures infection control standards are maintained - when cleaning/disinfecting equipment, dealing with infectious patients;
- Works independently, often under pressure, in emergency situations. Uses initiative and possesses strong organizational skills;
- Determines patient's capabilities and limitation and adjusts as necessary. May be required to lift, assist, move, transport patients and/or equipment. Considerable time spent walking, standing, and in close supportive contact with patients;
- Ensures proper patient identification ie. Patient medical record number, Date ofBirth matches that on the requisition;
- Is cognizant of and adheres to the policies and procedures of Labrador Grenfell Health, the fire and disaster manuals, WHMIS, infection control standards, quality control and initiatives, incident reporting, security concerns;
- Checks quality of images/examinations performed by reviewing images onProvincial PACS;
- Promotes effective and efficient utilization of resources to meet the goals of the department, maintaining high standards and budgetary controls;
- Schedules weekly shifts and callback for CT Technologists in conjunction with Lead Diagnostic Imaging Technologist IV in Diagnostic Imaging Department at LHC;
- Requisitions repair and preventive maintenance of CT equipment, accessory equipment, building maintenance. Reports same to Lead Diagnostic Imaging Technologist IV in Diagnostic Imaging Department at LHC, and to Regional Director of Diagnostic Services;
- Organizes work flow through the CT department, assists clerical scheduler with bookings, prioritizes CT requests with Radiologist, and ensures timely patient flow through the department;
- Facilitates sharing of knowledge and skills with students, peers, other health care professionals, patients and public;
- Acquires new information and developments in the CT field and implements those relevant to the department to ensure maximum standards are met;
- Applies principles of quality control. Ensures diagnostic quality image at all times, records pertinent information on image and examination in the Provincial PACS, and on the requisition;
- Attends meetings with Regional Director of Diagnostic Services and staff meetings;
- Develops new techniques and procedures in conjunction with the LeadRadiologist and evaluates the same;
- Evaluates the performance of all of the equipment in CT;
- Develops goals and objectives for the CT Department, in conjunction with Labrador Grenfell Health's strategic direction;
- Ensures IV therapy and transfer of skills programs are completed as well as IV
- Therapy recertification's for all CT Technologists;
- Perform other related duties as required.
