What You Will Do:

As the Manager, Finance & Accounting, you will play an essential role within our Finance team, reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting & Controls. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and motivating a team, inspiring dedication, achievement, growth, and quality work.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Administrate and execute monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and financial statement drafting in accordance with financial standards. This includes providing accurate and timely financial reporting to support financial decision making at Eastward Energy and its parent, Tri-Summit Utilities.
  • Ensuring clear documentation in place supporting the financial statements, reporting and audit needs.
  • Proactively researching new accounting policy requirements while ensuring current compliance and any new implementation of accounting standards.
  • Establishing and monitoring internal control systems and ensuring financial transactions and reports are accurate and complete, in line with policy, and related accounting principles and practices.
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and assist in the completion of CSOx audits and other special projects as they arise.
  • Oversee the calculation and filing of all taxes including HST, federal and provincial income taxes, carbon tax and municipal property tax.
  • Support the regulatory function and future growth of Eastward Energy by contributing to analysis of strategic projects and outcomes.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

This position has the following occupational requirements:

  • A university degree in Business Administration or Commerce, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation, with progressive accounting and financial management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

To excel in this position, we recommend that candidates have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Advanced planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multifaceted, complex, and evolving priorities and complex financial systems for planning, analysis, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Detailed understanding of monthly and annual financial statement preparation, including reporting results to management. Strong/advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • Ability to break down issues or processes into component parts to reach a solution.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies and standards.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, while still working collaboratively with other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on capacity.
