What you'll be doing
- Reporting to a Research Scientist, you will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies. On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects, with a focus on projects in partnership with Mi'kmaq communities and organizations
- This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data collection trips which may require both indoor and outdoor working environments. Innovative and committed to life-long learning, you are a creative self-starter with a commitment to research excellence.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma and/or a degree in a field related to the nature of the research project such as horticulture, plant biology, botany, environmental science, and/or geography.
- You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.
- Previous experience and/or willingness to fostering relationships with Mi'kmaq communities and non-profit organizations.
- Proven experience working with industry and community partners to complete a project on time and on budget.]
- Experience that includes planning, setting up, and conducting plant-based research, including plant and soil sampling.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.

- You have knowledge and skill in Nova Scotia plant identification and experience and /or knowledge of traditional Mi'kmaq approaches to resource management and environmental and natural resources concerns to Mi'kmaq.

- You have team working skills enable you to contribute positively to a team environment.

- You possess coordination skills specifically related to setting up, managing and conducting research projects.

- You have project management skills related to research activities.
