The Department of Justice and Public Safety is seeking an Assistant Director within the NB911 Branch in Fredericton, a component of the Security and Emergencies Division. Reporting to the Director, they will be a member of the branch management team, will lead a team of employees, and will support front line employees while collaborating with various partners and stakeholders.
The Assistant Director of the NB911 Program is the leader of the operational element of the NB911 Program, working directly with emergency service providers and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated emergency response so that the right resources get to the right places in the fastest time possible.
What you will do
- Lead the Operations Team of the NB911 Branch and work directly with leaders at Public Safety Answering Points, and police, fire and paramedic services to ensure emergency responses are coordinated
- Lead the Joint Emergency Services Committee, which prioritizes and plans how to improve emergency response to New Brunswickers.
- Lead the development, maintenance and evaluation of operational policy, processes and procedures that guide the coordination of emergency responses
- Coach team members in the day to day, short term and long-term Branch work planning;
- Engage the team with leadership in various project management initiatives;
- Excel in professionally written policy, procedures, briefing notes, and other advice to senior leadership;
- Inspire innovation and transformational change based on research, evidence, and best practice.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
Work environment
- Office location: Fredericton, NB
- Your Team: quality improvement, geomaticists and civic addressing personnel
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30

Who you are
You have a strong background as a first responder, in policing, fire services, or paramedicine. You have management expertise in planning, budgeting and finance, operations, quality improvement and reporting. You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to problem-solve creatively and to think on your feet. You find solutions and implement them, by understanding the needs of others and aligning your goals and theirs. You treat people in a polite and professional manner being courteous and always showing kindness. You are passionate about ensuring the safety and security of New Brunswickers. You understand how the small things fit in the big picture, how to transform that understanding into strategy and daily work and have an excellent reputation amongst peers, partners and stakeholders for the work you do and how you do it.

Need to have
- University degree in social sciences, public administration, or a related discipline
- A minimum of seven (7) years of related progressively responsible work experience
- Experience in staff management, leadership, and team development
- Experience in a first responder environment: policing, fire service or paramedicine
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required, please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement(s) is also required:
- Ability to travel throughout the province / country as necessary.
- Obtain and maintain security clearance at the level of SECRET.
Nice to Have (their asset qualifications)
- Experience in planning and/or managing complex emergency responses involving multiple agencies
- Experience in participating in change management initiatives
- Experience in working with emergency services leaders outside of the applicant's own professional background
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
Wage
$3,480 - $4,211 Biweekly (Pay Band 7)
