The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Aquaculture and Extension Services Branch as an Aquaculture Veterinarian, in St. George.
As a member of the Fish Health Unit and reporting to the Chief Aquaculture Veterinarian, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the overall delivery of provincial freshwater, shellfish and marine finfish health programs to the aquaculture industry. Primary responsibilities will include: supporting the Chief Aquaculture Veterinarian in finfish health and regulatory functions primarily with Atlantic salmon farming; implementing and supervising the shellfish health management program, specifically in the areas of disease prevention, biosecurity, surveillance and control; liaising with industry, government, private Veterinarians and other stakeholders regarding fish health matters. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from a recognized School of Veterinary Medicine; registration or eligibility for registration with the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association; and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in disease control programs, fish and shellfish health management, and aquaculture; training in aquatic animal health. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be required to: work extended hours outside of the regular work day on occasion; travel within the Province as required and to salmon sites in the Bay of Fundy and shellfish operations on the east coast; perform fieldwork and work alone with minimal supervision; work closely with a team of Biologists; possess a valid class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
The successful candidate must successfully complete a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) reference check, as requested.

SALARY: $94,540.42 to $123,303.18 per annum
NOTE: The successful candidate will also be eligible for standby pay and overtime compensation as per the Agriculture, Veterinary, Engineering, Land Surveying and Architecture Collective Agreement.
