Our client, Partners for Care, is a non-profit services partner of Nova Scotia Health with a mission to partner with businesses to improve healthcare and make life easier for patients, health providers, and communities across Nova Scotia. We are excited to lead the recruitment efforts as we partner with Partners for Care in search of a Senior Accountant to work with their impressive team in Nova Scotia! This is a primarily remote position with some in-person meetings and working sessions required.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting activities., including facilitating the budget process, accounts payable processing, bank reconciliations, and month-end close activities. With oversight from the CFO, the Senior Accountant will manage monthly/quarterly financial reporting, including forecast preparation. The successful candidate is a self-starter and problem solver. We are looking for someone energetic, collaborative, and with strong organization and multitasking skills.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitate the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Assemble accurate and timely month-end financial statements, including variance analysis.
  • Support the preparation of Board documents/reports.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual engagement.
  • Work independently to promptly and accurately post daily/monthly transactions.
  • Assemble, complete, and submit HST timely and accurate quarterly returns.
  • Complete bank reconciliations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable.
  • Provide timely service to external accounting partners.
  • Ensure accounting procedures are documented and up to date.
  • Follow up and follow through on any assigned projects.
  • Proactively jump in to support co-workers and assist with other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting, including monthly reporting
  • Proficiency in financial software, specifically QuickBooks and supplementary reporting software
  • Strong business acumen and a natural drive to anticipate needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey clear, detailed, and accurate information in a friendly, timely and well-organized manner
  • Strong work ethic and initiative, with the ability to consistently follow up and follow through
  • Strong analytical ability and a keen eye for detail are a must
  • Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • Professional accounting certification is not required but is considered to be an asset
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector or with charitable organizations is an asset
  • Trustworthy, professional with high regard for confidentiality
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
