The Faculty of Nursing is located on the university campus and offers programs leading to a Bachelor of Science (Collaborative) Program in Nursing (four-year and accelerated options), a Master of Science in Nursing (practicum and nurse practitioner options), a Post Master's Nurse Practitioner Graduate Diploma, and a PhD in Nursing. Recently, the undergraduate program underwent revision, implementing a concept-based curriculum.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director of the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) and the Dean Faculty of Nursing, the Wellness Navigator fosters student and faculty engagement, success, and well-being. The Wellness Navigator plays a critical role in supporting the Faculty of Nursing's mission to enhance the quality of life for its members, contributing to the overall success of students, faculty, staff, and the healthcare sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. Working in a collaborative and dynamic environment, the Wellness Navigator delivers well-being services, wellness programs, and success initiatives that are integral to promoting resilience, academic achievement, and personal well-being. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting students, staff and faculty; program coordination; advising and development; engagement and retention initiatives; outreach and partnerships; and communication and reporting. Duties include providing academic, career, and well-being support to students, faculty, and staff via, group, individual, in-person or virtual platforms; offering appropriate interventions and referrals to health professionals and other resources as needed; identifying and managing student, faculty, and staff challenges related to mental health, academic stress, or personal challenges; facilitating early interventions and ensuring access to necessary supports, including mental health counselling, academic advising, and service coordination or referrals to health professionals and other resources as needed; developing and leading well-being workshops, outreach initiatives, and success programs that promote mental and physical health using a healthy campus model; collaborating with university stakeholders and community agencies to create and deliver culturally relevant mental health supports and wellness initiatives; supporting students with academic and personal challenges; providing advising on academic regulations and university policies and notifying the Dean of student concerns; developing a wellness strategy for the Faculty of Nursing; engaging and leading student success programs including orientation to services, wellness checks, and career advising, while regularly monitoring student progress; building and maintaining relationships with university units, community organizations, and external agencies to strengthen support networks; travelling as needed to other Bachelor of Science (Collaborative) Nursing Programs, community, and outreach events; maintaining wellness-related web resources, preparing reports, and actively contributing to committees and working groups; acting as a liaison with Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC), and units such as the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Internationalization Office, Student Life, Office of Indigenous Affairs, Labrador Campus, Marine Institute, and external agencies; supporting faculty initiatives and accreditation efforts, participating in events like Student, Faculty, Staff Orientation, Crest Ceremony, and Graduation, and contributing to strategic objectives; supervising master's level counselling program learners; and performing other related duties as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Experience (3-5 years) in wellness, student success, or academic advising roles with a focus on mental health and well-being, and/or employee, team, or student success; completion of a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. The successful applicant must be registered with relevant regulatory body (i.e. Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador). The ideal candidate will have experience in developing well-being programs, advising students, and addressing academic and personal challenges. Demonstrated experience working in environments that prioritize accessibility and inclusion, as well as the management of complex issues related to equity, accessibility, mental health, and intercultural diversity, is required. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential for this role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, web content management, and social media platforms is required. The incumbent is expected to have experience and training in single session counselling, group support, crisis and suicide intervention, and mental health first aid training. Knowledge of university policies, accreditation standards, and student wellness resources will be considered assets.

SALARY $69,657 - $86,042 per annum (Management and Professional)
