Office of Research Services
The Office of Research Services (ORS), under the umbrella of the Office of the Vice-President (Research) and under the direction of the Executive Director, provides both pre-award and post-award support services to faculty members, researchers and external partners, as well as making connections with new partners including funding agencies, industry and external partners and research organizations. ORS supports faculty members and researchers on both campuses at all stages of the research including funding, managing intellectual property (IP) & agreements, technology and knowledge transfer, research security, commercialization and legal advice.

Salary Range: $65,173 - $84,726 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Director, Research Operations and Services, the Research Security Manager will oversee all research related risk analyses and project assessments. The Research Security Manager will function as an interface with members of the university research community, and external government and industry stakeholders with the goal of supporting a secure research environment at UNB.
- Develop a strategic research security framework for implementation of a university-wide approach to ensuring implementation of risk mitigation plans (i.e. timeframes, sequencing, milestones, audits) and compliance with related requirements.
- Create and roll-out a training/capacity building program for the UNB community to ensure a broad understanding of the complexities of research security and the associated regulations and policies.
- Establish and Support the UNB research ecosystem in safeguarding research and researchers by working directly and collaboratively with researchers, their research teams, and university staff to successfully mitigate risks to research.
- Advise researchers on the appropriate risk mitigation strategies and review individual project security plans as submitted to the Office of Research Services providing input prior to finalization of funding applications; advice will reflect awareness of key elements relating to research.
- Engage with researchers to proactively assist them in implementing their risk mitigation strategies following successful external funding.
- Connect researchers with necessary expertise and resources beyond those of ORS (e.g. ITS, Records Management & Privacy Office, Risk Management Office, Legal etc.).
- Liaise routinely with counterparts at other post-secondary institutions in Canada on the development of risk mitigation plans and compliance strategies.
- Develop and maintain detailed understanding of the requirements of federal programs such as the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), The STRAC Policy, and National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships.
- Develop and maintain detailed understanding of best practices for defence or other sensitive research in order to provide expert advice to the University to become a trusted partner for conducting sensitive and defense-related research.
- Develop key performance indicators/metrics for measurement for monitoring of compliance.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Post-secondary training (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in compliance regulations with industry or government agencies.
- Minimum of five years' experience in positions addressing processes and data collection in large complex organizations (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience working in a sensitive and complex work environment involving the protection of personal information.
- Must have previous experience in an advisory role focused around advising on processes and procedures within a complex research environment.
- Must possess strong knowledge of security frameworks.
