We are currently accepting applications for a Permanent, Full Time Coordinator, Community Programs to join our team in Halifax and Bedford.
Responsible to the Manager, Community Development & Supports, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and support to Community Programmers, assistants, students and volunteers
- Provides coordination of programs offered across all program sites
- Coordinates and supervises volunteers for programs and events
- Develops and maintains relationships both within the organization and in the community
- Implements and evaluates wellness and recreational programs and events
- Builds financially sustainable recreation and wellness programs
- Develops internal and external relationships to promote programs and events
Tasks:
- Facilitates and participates in the implementation of programs and activities based on needs, interests and capabilities of members/clients
- Use aggregate data and works collaboratively with others to identify, organize and facilitate social activites, support groups, and educational workshops that foster wellbeing, a sense of community and help overcome social isolation among seniors.
- Provides operational support related to data collection, reporting, planning, monitoring and evaluation
- Provides team leadership and coordination in all aspects of programs; works closely with Community Programmers, Fitness Consultants and volunteers.
- Coordinates volunteer assignments, providing training, support and recognition
- Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
- Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives
- Ensures that the needs of internal and external clients are anticipated and satisfied
- Ensures programs are financially sustainable
- Assists in the development of promotional materials relating to the programs (posters, flyers, announcements, etc.)
- Coordinates all aspects of community memberships; promotes membership growth
- Assists with administrative support needs as required
- Provides excellent customer service and is available for regular operating hours
- Tracks and reports monthly and annually on program indicators
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year experience in providing leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating community- based programs
- Previous experience working directly with seniors or at-risk population is a strong asset
- Post secondary education in a related discipline
- Completed courses in Gerontology, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or Recreation are considered an asset
- Valid NS Food Safety certification
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Experience in geriatric programming considered a strong asset
- Must be able to work well with people across various generations and socio-economic backgrounds
- Ability to work well under minimal supervision
Salary / Benefits: As per the Northwood scale
Hours of Work : 80 Hours biweekly (shift varies - days/evenings)
