JOB SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Traffic Signal Supervisor under the direction of the Director of Public Works.

This position is responsible for work in the field and workshop in connection with the construction, installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of municipal electrical equipment.

The work involves utilization of tradesmen skills and knowledge in the public works fields.

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate or equivalency.
  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution or equivalent. Must be a Licensed Electrician with a current Province of New Brunswick, Department of Labour, Technical Services Branch with an Electrician Class 3 License.
  • Must have a Certificate of Qualification in Electrical Construction and/or Industrial Construction with the Province of New Brunswick.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have three (3) years experience as a Licensed Electrician in the related fields; such as, traffic signal installation, maintenance and installation of electrical control equipment.

LANGUAGE:

  • English essential. The ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset, but not a requirement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be knowledgeable of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act. Must be knowledgeable of the Canadian Electrical Code
  • The incumbent must have above-average initiative; judgment and ability to solve problems and perform the duties as outlined.
  • Knowledge of and competency in personal computer systems and software such as Word, Excel, Hansen, etc. would be an asset.

OTHERS:

  • Must have and maintain Class 5 Driver's License.

CONTACTS:

  • Work requires contact with employees in own work group and employees of other departments to discuss work methods and procedures requiring limited explanation.
  • Requires attitudinal characteristics that reflect the best interests of the Corporation and the community at large.

SUPERVISION:

  • Supervisory experience would be an asset as may need to lead casuals or students as required.
  • Will be required to mentor, coach and/or train other employees.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.

CONDITIONS OF WORK:

  • All employees must comply with Council and Corporate adopted policies. (ie. Attendance Management, Respectful Workplace and Health and Safety).
  • Hours of work as per CUPE Collective Agreement as per Article 23.01(a).
  • Work is usually performed in a good working environment, under moderate conditions with exposure to occasional inclement weather. The work requires a high level of attention and mental sensory co-ordination with short periods of concentration. The work requires moderate physical effort and is normally performed standing either inside a building or outside in street areas. The work requires climbing/Bucket work and occasional exposure to disagreeable conditions and hazards.
