The Role

The Manager, Sustainability plays an integral role in the Global Sustainable Business team. Collaborating with business lines and corporate functions across the enterprise, the Manager supports the Senior Manager to integrate social impact into the business, identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives that advance the Bank's sustainability goals and commitments.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Work with the team to drive new and existing initiatives that focus on the social aspects of sustainability, including human rights, financial access & inclusion, racial equity, just transition, and affordable housing.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and provide subject matter expertise to help build and enhance the social components of the Bank's sustainability offerings, e.g., Scotiabank's sustainable finance issuances.
  • Support impact measurement and tracking and reporting progress against enterprise goals, including the development of KPIs.
  • Liaise with internal partners across the Bank's global footprint to improve internal awareness of the Bank's social-related sustainability initiatives.
  • Conduct research, apply critical thinking, and formulate insights to inform the social component of the Bank's sustainability strategy and risk horizon scanning. This includes keeping abreast of emerging social issues, risks and trends by:
  • Maintaining knowledge of legislative developments, international standards, and best practice approaches in corporate programs in financial and other sectors.
  • Conducting research and analysis on industry best practices and benchmarking peer activities.
  • Monitoring and assessing evolving stakeholder expectations.
  • Fostering a network of peers inside and outside the bank to share learnings.
  • Presenting research findings to the Sustainable Business team and other groups within the Bank.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across communications, marketing, and ESG Reporting to develop content for external publications, ESG raters and rankers, and ensure social-focused sustainability initiatives are profiled as key proof points in the Bank's ESG narrative.
  • End to end project management – from ideation through development and launch to implementation, gaining buy-in from stakeholders at all levels.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Champion a high-performance culture and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her/their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, human rights law, international affairs, or related subject.
  • Experience working within financial services or strong demonstrated understanding of banking and financial services.
  • Corporate social impact, social finance and/or social sustainability experience a strong asset.
  • Understanding of the intersection between financial services and social impact.
  • Results-oriented with strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, changing priorities, and a continually evolving and fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently.
  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills to present complex ideas and win over an audience.
  • Experienced program manager, with demonstrated accountability and experience with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Effective communication, presentation skills, and influencing skills, with an ability to build strong relationships.
  • Spanish proficiency is an asset.
