Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

What you will do

As a member of the Highway Maintenance Team, the successful candidate will be required to handle a variety of technical duties in the maintenance operations within the district.

Reporting to the Assistant to the District Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • maintaining an updated list of vehicle assignments, asset usage and asset billing periods in OMS (Operations Management System);
  • maintaining a GIS (Geographic Information System) database at the project level;
  • performing the duties of the AVL (Automotive Vehicle Location) Coordinator;
  • evaluating and processing all access and setback requests on local and collector highways;
  • performing the duties of the Road Report Coordinator;
  • investigating and responding to various requests from the Property Services Branch;
  • performing various audits throughout the District;
  • evaluating Large Building Move requests;
  • evaluating and processing Commercial Advertisement Permit requests and enforcing the Commercial Advertisement Regulation;
  • assisting in the preparation and administration of short form contracts within the District;
  • operating and maintaining public water supply systems to ensure compliance with current Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and Department of Health policies/standards; and
  • compiling municipal agreements annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 1025 College Hill Road, Fredericton, with field work as required.
  • Open office layout.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday â?? Friday.

  • Some travel within the province will be required.

Essential Qualifications:

Engineering ad Field level VII:

  • Diploma from a two (2) year Civil Engineering Technology Program with six (6) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
  • Valid Class 5 driverâ??s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may select someone at the following lower classification.

Engineering and Field level VI:

  • Diploma from a two (2) year Civil Engineering program with five (5) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
  • Valid Class 5 driverâ??s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following asset:

  • a background in auditing and mapping software.

SALARY:

Engineering and Field level VII: $2,327.00 to $2,932.00 bi-weekly (based on a 36 ¼ hour work week).

Engineering and Field level VI: $2,126.00 to $ 2,671.00 bi-weekly (based on a 36 ¼ hour work week).
