The Fredericton Police Force (FPF) is currently recruiting candidates to attend the Atlantic Police Academy (APA) Police Science Cadet program in Summerside, PEI for the July class of 2025 and the January class of 2026.

What we offer:

The FPF will provide successful sponsorship candidates with the following:

  • A conditional offer of employment as a police constable with the FPF following graduation from the APA.
  • Zero percent tuition financing repayable through payroll deductions over a negotiated term.
  • Salary of $27/hour throughout cadet twelve week On-the-Job-Training (OJT).

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Attend the Atlantic Police Academy - Summerside, Prince Edward Island and pass the Police Science Cadet Program in good standing. This includes the twelve-week OJT period with the FPF.
  • Complete a one-year probationary period, in good standing.
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 years of service with the Fredericton Police Force.
  • If participating in tuition financing, sign a tuition repayment agreement.

The minimum requirements to apply for the Sponsorship Program:

  • Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. If you are a permanent resident, you must have lived in Canada for at least five years.
  • Have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted and have no criminal charges pending before the courts.
  • Be of good moral character and habits, meaning that you are an individual with no criminality in your background and that other people would look upon as being trustworthy and having integrity.
  • Possess a valid unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must be medically fit to police force standards.
  • Must be able to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test to police standards.
  • Must not have been declined entry to the APA in the last 5 years or be on a current deferral from attending the APA.

Sponsorship Process Overview:

1.The FPF and APA have partnered on a multi-step sponsorship application process:

  1. The FPF will conduct and/or coordinate the following steps in the process:
  2. Collection of Resume and Cover Letter
  3. Completion of Authorization to Exchange Information with a Third Party (APA)
  4. Preliminary Interview
  5. PARE Test
  6. Panel interview
  7. Pre-employment Ethics/Integrity Interview
  8. Extensive Background Check including Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks
  9. Psychological Assessment/Testing

Candidates will be responsible for completing their application process with the APA once directed by the FPF to do so: *

  1. APA Registration Profile and providing required documentation:
  • Current resumé
  • Transcripts, including Grade 12 or equivalent and any post-secondary
  • Certificate for Standard First Aid, AED and CPR Level "C"
  • Completed APA Medical Assessment Form
  • Completed Visual Examination Form
  • Copy of valid Driver's License
  • 2 Letters of reference (non-family/friends)
  • Proof of Canadian Citizenship
  • Two identifying documents, one of which must be a birth certificate

*Note that the APA waives the application fee for sponsorship candidates.
