A TYPICAL WEEK:

Working as part of the Finance & Administration team, and cross-functionally with other departments, the Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting operating results and providing specific recommendations to Management as well as for the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial risk management processes and reporting. This also includes the development of data and business analytics tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting & Reporting

  • Provides relevant and meaningful financial reporting and analysis to management, auditors, regulators, and others.
  • Provides support for the annual audit, budget process as well as for the administration of financial accounting controls and processes, including the identification of opportunities for process improvements, and collaborates with other departments/ partners to implement process improvements.
  • Provides input into the design and implementation of Finance departmental plans and objectives.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and processes relating to financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting that, through the determination of needs, identification of opportunities and research of best practices, comply with relevant accounting standards and legislative, regulatory, policy, and sound business requirements.

Data and Business Analytics

  • Maintains an understanding of the overall business processes and existing data structures in order to effectively respond to the needs of the organization through reporting and analysis. Maintains an understanding of the multiple sources of data and the necessary relationships between the various sources to support evolving business requirements.
  • Develops and maintains automated processes, using various software platforms and tools, to increase the efficiency and accuracy of various tasks within the organization
  • Collects functional and data requirements to identify and understand the business requirements of end users with respect to the development of new or existing solutions.
  • Designs and develops new solutions and/or modifies existing solutions to accommodate any system requirements or restrictions in the areas of business process improvements, regulatory reporting, management reporting, data analysis, and ad-hoc requests. Tests the solution throughout its development and/or modification and identifies and resolves issues.
  • Provides training and support to end users after the system has been delivered, including but not limited to, demonstrating how to use the solution, answering questions, providing advice, guidance, and mentoring as required.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

As the ideal candidate you will have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance, a professional designation CPA or CFA and have 5-8 years' experience in a financial accounting/reporting role in the financial services industry; or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience using the following applications is preferred.

  • Microsoft Access
  • VBA (Visual Basics for Applications)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Power BI
  • Globe Databases & Other Databases (SQL)
  • XML

COMPENSATION:

This is a permanent full-time position, with a salary range of $87,712 - $103,191. League Savings & Mortgage offers a competitive benefits package as well as the opportunity to participate in the Performance Sharing Incentive Plan.

LOCATION:

This position will be based in our Halifax, NS office, but provides services throughout Atlantic Canada, so therefore offers the ability to work remotely as required.

TRAVEL, EVENING AND WEEKEND WORK:

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.
