The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Sampler, USW Local 6500, to join our Central Lab team in Sudbury. This is a permanent full-time position.
As a Sampler, you will provide sample preparation services to various customer groups within Sudbury operations, by preparing samples for physical testing, chemical analysis, metals accounting, and material control.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Perform routine sample preparation following established procedures on a wide variety of samples using sample preparation techniques and equipment (e.g. crushers, sub-sieve sizing, pulverizers, dust hoods, filter pots, Ro-TAPS, analytical balances, drying ovens, moisture analyzers.)
- Operate sample preparation equipment.
- Perform physical tests such as screen analysis, moisture determinations, bulk density, and percent solids.
- Logs samples and record information in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Operate a light vehicle to transport samples around and between plant properties on public highways.
- Comply to Quality Management System and ISO 17025 Accreditation requirements as they pertain to sample preparation.
- Read and understand instructions, procedures, manuals, and administrative guidelines.
- Provide basic information and answer routine queries from customers, analysts, and supervision.
- Actively participate and adhere to all requirements of the Lab Safety System.
Hours of Work
Mon-Friday Dayshift & Shift Work (12HR D/N Shift rotation supporting 24/7 operations and 12HR/7 Dayshift Rotation.)
About You
Education:
- Grade 12 level education or GED equivalency is required.
- Relevant technical college diploma would be considered an asset (i.e. Chemical Engineering Technology diploma).
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Experience:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products is required.
- Knowledge of LabWare LIMS would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience in sample preparation would be considered an asset.
Skills:
- Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
- Written and oral communication skills
- Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
- Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
- Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines.
- Maintain a high level of professional conduct.
