Job Description:

Department Overview

The Compensation Advisory Group, within the Global Total Rewards Group, is TD's in-house Compensation consulting team that provides advice and tailored compensation solutions for each business group based on their respective strategy and business requirements.

The Manager, Compensation Advisory will report to the Associate Vice President, HR Compensation Advisory. The role will manage the day-to-day relationships with our various partners and lead customized solutions aligned to the strategic objectives within the assigned portfolios. In this capacity, the individual will interface with business leaders, our various HR partners (HR Business Partners, HR Advice channels, talent, recruitment, HR Operations), as well as Finance and the Governance & Control teams to provide direction on both individualized complex total rewards requests, incentive design and more broadly project-based reviews.

Key accountabilities

The Manager will be expected to collaborate with internal and external partners to manage the effective development, implementation, and ongoing delivery of Total Rewards solutions, while ensuring alignment with the broader HR strategy. In doing so, he/she will:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the portfolios' strategic direction, ensuring alignment of business specific compensation programs with established enterprise Total Rewards principles and objectives

  • Work closely with the Talent Acquisition partners, providing advice on complex compensation recommendations

  • Lead and manage end-to-end activities for the assigned portfolio, including day to day compensation advisory and counsel, complex compensation design, ongoing forecasting and monitoring of plan health, competitiveness, and alignment to the business strategy

  • Actively monitor trends in the competitive market with a solid understanding of the external comparative organizational structures, ensuring both compensation designs and pay level opportunities allow the attraction and retention of qualified talent

  • Lead strategic discussions on plan design and conduct complex modeling, stress-testing, analysis for the purposes of compensation design

  • Develop written materials on program design and impact that is reviewed by the various Conduct Risk Committees and the HR Committee of the Board, as applicable

  • Prepare and provide guidance and interpretation of analysis, forecasting and summaries on compensation matters, including advice and support on questions of policy and interpretation of plans

  • Independently manage year-end compensation for the assigned portfolios, including market data intelligence by monitoring participation in salary surveys to ensure competitive compensation as well as alignment with business strategy and compensation philosophy

  • Actively participate in compensation advisory projects engaging multiple stakeholders in flow of information / assignments across functions using well-established project planning and change management skills, including managing the communication requirements

  • Encourage and coach Junior team members to build their skills

Specific Qualifications - The preferred candidate will possess:

  • Experience in a numerical/analytical capacity with the ability to model, review and analyze data and present findings to senior business leaders

  • Impact and influencing skills with an ability to persuade members from other areas to obtain cooperation in achieving objectives.

  • Strong consulting, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Power Point, and a working knowledge of Access an asset.

  • Project management skills, with an ability to provide oversight and coordination of multiple projects/changing priorities concurrently under tight timelines and with multiple stakeholders.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, able to work independently and delegate tasks/work to others.

  • Ability to manage changing priorities and work under tight deadlines.

  • Knowledge of wealth management and/or insurance businesses, an asset.
