Divert NS Board of Directors
Divert NS is seeking four committed, enthusiastic, environmental champions to apply to our Board.
Divert NS values diversity and seeks a Board comprised of skills and backgrounds that represent the environment in which it operates. For the purposes of Board composition, diversity includes, but is not limited to, business experience, geography, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, persons with disabilities, African Nova Scotians, Indigenous peoples in Canada, and racially visible minorities.
The Divert NS Board strives to balance its skills and expertise to meet mandates and ensure effective governance with province-wide representation for stakeholders. All candidates should have the following experience and attributes:
· Board Governance, including general operating principles of a Board. Familiarity with Robert's Rules of Order would be beneficial. This may be either in a not-for-profit or for-profit capacity.
· An interest and willingness to champion change and help move the organization forward with its strategic plans.
· An ability to think and manage strategically at a Board level.
· A willingness to engage with stakeholders and be receptive to different viewpoints in the fulfilment of their duties.
· Ability to separate personal/business interests and act in the best interest of Divert NS. The specific mandates and objectives of the organization are detailed in our annual report on the divertns.ca website.
· A high level of integrity and ethics as they relate to the administration of public institutions and their role.
· Knowledge of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) would be beneficial.
In addition to the foregoing, the Divert NS Board is seeking applicants with specific attributes and expertise to fill the following roles:
Accounting/Financial Position
An established accounting professional with a designation (e.g. CPA). Preference is for an individual that works in one of the industry sectors or stakeholder groups served by Divert NS. Experience with the solid waste, recycling and/or environmental sector is beneficial. This position is also the Chair of the Audit Committee.
Tire Industry Representative Position
A senior management representative that works in the tire retail, service or manufacturing sector in Nova Scotia. Experience with the solid waste, recycling and/or environmental aspects of the industry is beneficial.
Beverage Industry Representative Position
A senior management representative that works in the beverage retail, service or manufacturing sector in Nova Scotia. Experience with the solid waste, recycling and/or environmental aspects of the industry is beneficial.
Independent Environmental/Waste-Resource Management Industry Representative Position
An individual working in the field of environmental sustainability or waste-resource management as a management employee or operating their own consulting practice. Technical expertise and/or market knowledge of established and emerging waste-resource management and recycling technologies, practices and policies are desirable.
