Demands, duties, qualifications About the Role.
The primary purpose of this position is to work as an active member of the health care team providing pre-hospital assessment and medical care to people with acute illnesses or injuries while maintaining a high standard of care to the patients. The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) is responsible for maintaining professional and organizational standards of practice as well as working as a team member in accordance with the LG Model of Nursing Clinical Practice. The PCP ensures a safe environment for patients and staff and reports to the Emergency Services Manager.
Qualifications:
• Graduation from High School;
• Graduation from an Approved Primary Care Paramedic program accredited by the Canadian Medical Association;
• Current registration with the NL Paramedicine Regulation as a PCP and Office of the Provincial Medical Director;
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
• Copy of current Advanced Procedures Certificates (IV Therapy, Semi-Automatic Defibrillation, Symptom Relief, etc);
• Successful completion of ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) & NRP or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by the employer);
• Knowledge of computer skills and an ability to work with Meditech is an asset;
• Valid Class 04 driver's license and must have own vehicle;
• Must be able to report to work within a reasonable timeframe;
• The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
• Respond to Ambulance calls and provide professional paramedic care to clients onsite, during and after medical emergencies;
• Prepares patient and monitors patient's condition during transport;
• Communicates with the hospital emergency department advising of the nature of illness and injury;
• Completes patient/ambulance documentation including monthly reports;
• Assists with transport arrangements;
• Responsible for the Ambulance equipment;
• Respond to all emergency calls;
• Completes patient documentation during transport;
• Assists with the activities of the nursing department as required including patient registration, portering, triage, ECG's, oxygen administration, glucometers, IV Insertions, etc., that are within scope of practice;
• Does regular scheduled stand-by as required;
• Other related duties as required.
