FCNB is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. FCNB's mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Translator English-French

We are seeking a dedicated professional to act as a Translator in the Communications and Public Affairs Division of the Commission. This position is responsible for translating various documents from English to French while maintaining a high standard of quality and accuracy. As a Translator, your translation skills, creativity and passion for clear and effective communication will help New Brunswickers build financial resilience and confidence in their ability to achieve their financial goals, protect the public interest, and support a culture of inclusive consumer and investor protection among industry participants.

You'll work with a small team in a collaborative manner, have the opportunity to learn from the experience of the senior translation team, and contribute to discussions on linguistic topics, trends, and developments.

You will also be responsible for not only translating but editing, proofreading and revising a wide range of moderately to highly complex documents and accompanying materials. You will liaise directly with our staff to better understand their project timelines and budget details for each translation project.

You will be expected to research and provide insight and recommendations on terminology, linguistic or other translation inquiries from internal staff and participate in collaborative content creation projects to ensure translated and original materials properly represent the Commission's intended purpose.

This position reports to the Senior Translator in the Communications and Public Affairs division.

Your qualifications include linguistic and technical competencies in both official languages, exceptional time management skills and superior organizational skills. You have a strong attention to detail and can work independently as well as in a team environment.

Other qualifications include:

  • University degree in translation and CTTIC certified (EN-FR),
  • 3 years of work experience in translation, (2 of which may have been completed as part of certification requirements),
  • Demonstrated experience working in a position with similar responsibilities in both official languages,
  • Demonstrated writing experience,
  • Superior research skills,
  • Ability to set priorities as well as anticipate demands Excellent proofreading abilities,
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and the financial and consumer services sectors would be an asset.
