About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Supervisor, Client Services, the Housing Officer plays a high-value operational role for the organization by having direct impact on multiple key performance measures and processes including, wait list management, vacant unit turnaround, tenant selection, and unit marketing.

Responsibilities
  • Drives the tenant selection process for rental units and directly impacts key housing performance measures by managing wait lists, making timely offers to eligible applicants, showing units, and working closely with all staff involved in vacant unit turnover process.
  • Performs administrative duties including maintaining monthly statistical reports based on business processes and performance objectives. Also maintains accurate and up-to-date applicant and property information.
  • Supports the application process by informing those interested in rental housing about program benefits, eligibility requirements and other essential details.
  • Respectfully and professionally handles client complaints by promptly reviewing and resolving concerns, or escalating issues to the Supervisor, Client Services.
  • Ensures all contact and communications with clients are appropriately documented.
  • Other duties as assigned including taking on the role of Acting Supervisor, Client Services when necessary.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years post-secondary training related to the position and three years' related experience or an acceptable combination of training and experience.
  • Familiar with the Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Authority policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of desktop software including Microsoft Office and
  • Yardi Property Management software.
  • Excellent organizational skills to monitor, track and follow-up a high volume of client accounts.
  • High level of motivation and the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Excellent judgment and strong communication skills to communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse tenant population and provide written reports and recommendations to the Supervisor, Client Service.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when questioning and dealing with client inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Ability to remain calm when provoked or when placed in stressful or emotional situations.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

Assets

  • Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
