Who we are

We invite you to join the Parks NB team! You will have the opportunity to work at one of the most beautiful beaches in North America with the warmest salt water in Canada. Parlee Beach also holds international Blue Flag certification. The Park offers a variety of beach activities throughout the summer, and its campground features over 210 sites.

Parks NB works collaboratively with our community (staff, stakeholders and industry members) to support, promote, and grow the tourism sector while encouraging New Brunswickers and visitors to discover outdoor activities and experiences. We strive to be the ultimate host, providing our guests with a high-quality experience as well as meaningful connections to our protected natural and cultural spaces.

What you will do

Reporting to the Park Manager, you will assist with the day-to-day operations and management of the park. You will be responsible for the oversight of unionized employees in the seasonal operation of the site including security, retail, rentals, maintenance and customer service. You will be responsible for public relations and marketing, business development, as well as assisting in the planning of capital infrastructure projects. The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising day-to-day park operations
  • Assisting in managing human resources including all aspects of staffing, staff scheduling, training and development and performance reviews of unionized staff
  • Assisting in identifying and planning of capital infrastructure projects
  • Promoting and enforcing all applicable health and safety policies and regulations
  • Ensuring delivery of quality visitor services
  • Assisting with budget preparation and expenditure control
  • Assisting the park manager in developing and identifying the short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the park
  • Responding to and following up on all customer concerns and complaints
  • Controlling inventory and statistical data for the park
  • Performing various other related duties as required

Design and Deliver Programs: Researching, developing, and implementing unique educational programs and events for Parlee Beach and Murray Beach, aiming to deepen visitors' connection to the natural environment, beach sports and local culture. For instance, interactive sessions on coastal ecosystems, sustainable beach use, and local wildlife could be created to build awareness and support conservation.

Program Analysis and Standards Development: Providing analytical insights to improve public education standards, tailored to the beach environments. Developing innovative approaches, including digital and interactive tools, to convey messages on topics like ocean health and eco-friendly practices to both in-person and virtual audiences.

Collaborative and Partnered Initiatives: Coordinating with regional stakeholders, such as local Indigenous groups, environmental organizations, and community groups, to co-develop programs and events that resonate with the values of the parks and engage diverse groups in sustainable beach and park practices.

Evaluation and Reporting: Tracking and assessing the effectiveness of public outreach programs by gathering visitor feedback, attendance metrics, and environmental impact data. This evaluation will inform necessary adjustments to keep the programs relevant and engaging.

Policy and Program Support: Supporting the implementation of national and provincial outreach policies and guidelines within the provincial parks. Adapt these frameworks to fit the specific needs and dynamics of Parlee and Murray Beaches.

Capacity Building and Training: Contributing to developing in-park capacity-building resources, such as training modules for staff, volunteers, and partners, on topics like eco-tourism, heritage preservation, and visitor safety.

Visitor Experience and Public Safety Support: Engaging directly with visitors, answering questions, addressing concerns, and promoting a safe and enjoyable park experience. Providing educational guidance and respectful reminders about appropriate behaviors, including waste disposal and wildlife respect.

Community and Partner Engagement: Maintaining active relationships with community stakeholders, such as educational institutions and environmental groups, ensuring Parlee Beach and Murray Beach stay informed of emerging trends in public outreach and conservation.

Cross-Functional Initiatives and Leadership: Taking a leading role in cross-functional working groups focused on advancing public education and outreach at the provincial level. Champion innovative strategies to keep visitor engagement programs aligned with the evolving goals of both parks.

  • Working shifts and variable hours, including evenings and weekends

Who you are

You are someone who values exceeding work expectations and have knowledge and experience in managing a park or similar enterprise. You must be a team player capable of multitasking a wide range of responsibilities related to operational management, human resources, communications and financial management, all while respecting tight deadlines. You are organized and enjoy a challenge. You also possess strong interpersonal, communication skills and are self-motivated.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, environmental sciences, tourism or a related discipline and a minimum of four (4) years of progressive park or resort management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience and financial management OR a post-secondary diploma in business administration, environmental sciences, tourism or a related discipline and a minimum of six (6) years of progressive park or resort management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience and financial management
  • Considerable experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Written and spoken competence in English and French is required

  • Experience in developing and managing current and future programming

Wage

$2,183.00 to $3,053.00 bi-weekly (Pay Band 4)
