JOB PURPOSE
In this leadership role, the Link Nurse, in collaboration with the Manager, will assist with administration and supervision of the unit. The role will coordinate staff and allocates work for the day-to-day delivery of care to meet the individual needs of patients in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the Health Authority. This role will facilitate and/or lead improvement initiatives to enhance patient and family centered care while supporting a quality work environment. This role will focus on optimizing the professional practice environment and overseeing the daily functions of the Family Medical Unit. The Link will act as a clinical resource for staff, interdisciplinary team members, patients and families. The Link nurse will provide direct patient care when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current registration as a practicing member of the Nurses Association of New Brunswick
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of five (5) years experience required.
- Current certifications in:
- BCLS
- ACLS
- CVAD
- BCMI
- ECG
- Demonstrates knowledge of current best practices in Family Medicine
- Professional Nursing experience where leadership has been demonstrated, with the exceptional ability to apply knowledge in the clinical setting.
- Demonstrates exceptional competency in the area of practice
- Demonstrates ability to manage stressful situations and set priorities.
- Demonstrates adherence to Legislation and Horizon Confidentiality Policy
- Willingness to take any additional education or training
- Commitment to continuing current and mandatory education
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills with families, staff, physicians and the general public as well as public relations capabilities
- Patient safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare. Successful candidates must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communicating effectively and responding to adverse events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with the Manager, develops and initiates unit specific action plans
- Communicates and collaborates with all members of the interdisciplinary team
- Audits processes, documentation pertaining to operational practice
- Performs advanced nursing competencies according to approved hospital protocol
- Participates in inpatient rounds
- Identifies needs effecting discharge planning and potential services required at home
- Coaching, mentoring and acting as a resource to staff
- Participates in programs promoting quality improvement on nursing unit
- Liaising with family and other stakeholders
- Understands and applies the Model of Care in patient assignment decision making
- Demonstrates initiative for personal professional development
- Supports new employees during orientation
