The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program of NL Health Services anticipates future Diagnostic Cytology career opportunities.
The Opportunity
Working independently and with a team of laboratory technologists and medical professionals the Diagnostic Cytology Technologist is a key member of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team. The primary purpose of the Cytologist position is microscopic interpretation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens to determine the presence or absence of cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions.
Funding support for tuition and books may be available if a student is willing to sign a service commitment agreement to work with NL Health Services upon graduation.
Education for the Diagnostic Cytology Program is currently offered through the Michener Institute of Education at UHN/University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario.
Prerequisite Requirements
Applicants must apply and meet the school admission requirements for the Diagnostic Cytology program on their own merit. Education options, entrance requirements and fees are outlined on the Michener website.

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance may be available to help offset costs associated with the Diagnostic Cytology program. Funding may be provided for tuition and books. A return-in-service agreement with NL Health Services will be required, and the length of the return-in-service will depend on the total amount of funding provided. The service obligation will begin once the applicant has successfully completed the certification exam and started working in the role.
If the prerequisite requirements are met, applicants will be assessed for financial support based on a combination of screening criteria such as academic grades and interview(s).
