The Opportunity:

Position: Casual School Administrative Assistant I

Department: School Administration

Internal/External: External

Employment Type: Casual

Union: CUPE 2745

Hours: Up to 36.25 hours per week (Shifts available Monday to Friday)

Salary: $24.12 per hour + 4% vacation pay

Reports to: School Administrative Assistant II or Principal

Location: Opportunities will be distributed between our 40 schools

Summary of Accountabilities:

  • Routine secretarial work in a school under the supervision of a senior school administrative assistant, principal or designate
  • Duties include:â??
    • Administration support duties such as typing, keyboarding, preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, forms, tables and charts from drafts, copies or dictation
    • Composing, typing and in some cases, signing routine or formal correspondence
    • Preparing, processing and auditing basic reports, records and other documents
    • Gathering and compiling statistics
    • Operating a full range of office equipment
    • Preparing and maintaining files and records
    • Performing receptionist duties, opening, sorting & allocating mail
    • Performing inventories & preparing requisitions for supplies
    • Distributing supplies
    • Demonstrating standard office procedures to new or temporary employees
    • Answering factual questions regarding day to day office activities & school procedures
    • May include computer operation such as date entry on studentâ??s records, processing & retrieval

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school including or supplemented by business education courses, including computer courses and other courses relative to the position or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel
