Purpose of Position:
Often called a Branch Financial Officer, this role functions as the key financial contact to Airports. This position will liaise between Corporate Finance and the operation, providing support and guidance on accounting and finance related issues specific to each area. This position will provide data analysis/reporting to support decision making and identify opportunities for process improvement/automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and approve month end accruals for significant revenues and expenses.
- Review and approve rates and activity volume used to invoice customers based on contractual agreements.
- Prepare detailed analytical analysis of cost and revenue variances to be used in preparation of the monthly and quarterly results.
- Coordinate with the other BFO's to build salary projections by union for pension note disclosure.
- Communicate with Air Canada Finance on margin variances, actual expenses, and invoice follow-up.
- Collaborate with Flight Operations on the creation of detailed rates per pilot training event.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and direction to direct reports in their day-to-day activities as well as future development opportunities.
- Collaborate with department leads in determining FTE requirements based on the statistics provided. Perform statistical and trend analysis for operational divisions to determining expenses for building the annual budget, outlook, and CPA rate reset submissions.
- Deliver presentations and financial statements to senior finance and operational divisions on the respective forecast. Provide variance analysis compared to prior forecasts or actuals.
- Review and approve all staffing requisitions, providing appropriate business cases for new position requests.
- Provide financial analysis and approval on all expenditures of capital in nature, operating spends based on policy and new contract commitments. Ensure that appropriate business cases are in place and the costs align with the approved current forecast.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and assistance as required for organizational initiatives and new projects.
- Review and approve audit papers and response to external and internal auditor questions.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications?
- University graduate with a focus in business required.
- Must have one of the following Professional Accounting Designations (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA).
- Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) is required.
- Strong Analytical Skills and Data skills (synthesize and forecast implications).
- In depth knowledge of Excel.
- Strong time management skills along with the ability to manage multiple work assignments.
- Ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of accurate and timely judgment
- Effective Communication with all levels of employees, including Executive and Senior management, along with Junior staff.
- Must have at least 6 years of work experience including 1 year of post designation accounting experience.
