CTV News is growing its team of journalists. We are looking to hire an experienced journalist who is excited about delivering the news across multiple platforms and thrives in a breaking news environment. The successful candidate will be experienced in writing for broadcast and digital formats, understands the power of sound and video, and has strong news judgement.
Key Responsibilities- The writer will be responsible for writing clear, concise, and interesting copy
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards of all material they are responsible for
- Pitch ideas for original reporting, with an eye for execution across multiple platforms
- Monitoring wires, internal and external news sources, and broadcast feeds for the most up to date information, while keeping SEO key words and social sharing top of mind
- Participate in news editorial meetings
- 5+ years experience working in News
- Possess a Degree in Journalism (or relevant equivalent)
- Must be an exceptional writer, creative thinker and have outstanding news judgment/editorial standards
- Follow news closely, have a key understanding of what's happening at all times across Canada and around the world and be able to research and advance any story assignment
- Ability to work under constant tight deadlines while juggling multiple assignments using strong time management skills
- Exceptional command of the English language and an ability to write for both broadcast and digital in a way that demonstrates a keen understanding of the standards required for each
- Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
- Ability to work in a team and be self-motivated
- Ability to write engaging headlines that make readers want more
- Familiarity with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
- Excellent computer skills
- An understanding of newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.)
- Proficiency in social networks
