Demands, duties, qualifications
Definition of work:
This position is journey person level work in Carpentry. The Trades Worker IE performs Carpentry work including the maintenance and repair of buildings, preliminary mechanical work and equipment. Participates in the maintenance, repair and renovation of wooden structures utilizing woodworking machinery and hand tools for activities such as demolition and installation, framing walls, drywall, T-Bar ceiling, windows, door systems, steel beams and floor coverings/systems. Performs workstation modifications as a result of ergonomic assessments which may include designing, dismantling and reconfiguring furniture. Installs items such as, but not limited to the following, TV wall mounts, blinds, moldings, baseboards, air scrubbers, window mounted air conditioners, railing, bollards, dust collection systems, range hoods, exhaust fans, sealing and insulating duct work, parking lot signage, repair outdoor equipment, fencing, basic plumbing related issues and other related items. Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine requirements. Estimates cost and orders materials and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance on various equipment and machines; liaises and communicates with contractors; provides training and mentorship to apprentices; and other related duties including general maintenance and assisting other building trades may be required. Travel within the region to perform maintenance related duties may be required. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

• Regularly lifts/moves object up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required.
• Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending and twisting; regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions.
• Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. ladders/scaffolding).
• Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
• Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards, potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids
and/or other contagion. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.
• Maintaining a clean-shaven face can be mandated to ensure proper seal of personal protective equipment.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• Carpentry course from a recognized institute of technology approved by Central Health.
• Journeyperson Certificate in Carpentry.
• A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class IV Driver's License.
• Demonstrated knowledge of National Building Codes, Fire Codes, Municipal Codes, Asbestos, WHIMIS and Occupational Health and Safety, and removal of hazardous materials.
• Demonstrated ability to:
• Install various hardware.
• Repair or calibrate machinery.
• Operate a computer to prepare documents or access databases.
• Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Assess and estimate job materials.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computers.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience working at a journeyperson level as a Carpenter in a health care environment.
