We are currently accepting applications for Payroll Supervisor to join our team.

Responsible to the Payroll and Pensions Manager, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in payroll
  • Post secondary education in Business, Accounting or related field
  • Certification with National Payroll Institute (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) required
  • Ability to work overtime and on statutory holidays as required
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Accounting Software, Excel, Payroll Software
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all Corporate policies, current collective agreements and government legislation, i.e. Labour Standards, Income Tax Act, Workers Compensation Legislation, Employment Insurance Legislation, etc.
  • Skills: Confidentiality, attention to detail, accuracy, organization, maturity, flexibility, ability to work well under pressure, analytical, strong team player, adaptable to change, ability to set and adjust priorities frequently
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure biweekly payroll is processed accurately and on time according to Northwood Company, Collective Agreements, Terms and Conditions of Employment and Labor Standards
  • Responsible for the supervision of Payroll Associates with regard to day to day operations of the Payroll Department.
  • Accountable for the accurate maintenance and verification of employee payroll records and specified employee banks.
  • Liaises with internal and external clients including senior management and government as required
  • Provides excellent customer service and quality information to both internal and external stakeholders for over 2,800 staff.
  • Supervise, train, mentor and support the Payroll Associates relative to all payroll functions, responsibilities and reporting requirements for six individual companies, seven biweekly pay runs, ten collective agreements and four terms and conditions of employment.
  • Prepare T4's and T4A's for the Northwood Group of Companies and affiliated companies; ensure that all statutory deductions and remittances are reconciled and accurately reflected on the year-end slips.
  • Closes payroll year and establishes new year system requirements.
  • Complies with all corporate policies, collective agreements, terms and conditions of employment and government legislation (e.g. Labour Standards, Income Tax Act, Workers Compensation Legislation, Employment Insurance Legislation).
  • Maintains accurate records for employee benefits including sick banks, vacation, overtime, statutory holiday and leaves of absence, etc.

Salary: As per the Northwood Scale

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly (8 hour - Day shifts)
