Reporting to the Director, Structural Portfolio, the Senior Treasury Analyst contributes to the overall success of Scotiabank Group Treasury Structural Risk Strategy & Market Execution team globally, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. They will also ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Structural Risk Strategy & Market Execution is responsible for managing the structural interest rate risk and FX exposure of the bank, as well as managing the bank's Liquidity Portfolio, which is a portfolio comprised of highly liquid fixed-income securities.

As a member of the Structural Portfolio team, the candidate will be primarily responsible for the trade support, reporting, and daily processes of the portfolio. They will get a full exposure of working on a capital markets desk.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Be a key person to ensure that all trades are captured into internal systems.
  • Take ownership of regular reporting and operational processes on the Structural Portfolio desk, such as Market Portfolio P&L, FTP and other related tickets and processes, maintenance of analytics tools such as tracking spreadsheets related to SIRR positioning, KPI changes, as well as monthly Stock Based Compensation Portfolio reporting to ALCO.
  • Act as a liaison between the Structural Portfolio and the rest of GT Markets team to track trades, assist in the blotter, and request any approvals. Be a key member of the team, who will impact the work team's effectiveness.
  • Support Foreign Exchange desk operational requirements such as daily ticketing and Hedge Accounting related requests.
  • Support Liquidity Portfolio tracking of collateral movement (repo & Clearstream pledge), new issue purchases, ESG activity and SSA meetings taken by the Portfolio Managers.
  • Support Pension Portfolio desk requirements by managing custodian account balances and assisting with preparing quarterly PowerPoint presentations.
  • Provide recommendations on process improvements, after analyzing operational challenges.
  • Provide guidance and training to the desk's intern and ensure smooth transition between terms.
  • Occasionally document and improve desk operating procedures and manuals.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of the respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, or other quantitative fields required.
  • Master's Degree and/or financial designations are strong assets.
  • Individual should have a minimum of 1 year experience in capital markets or treasury roles. This should include meaningful experience related to fixed income markets.
  • Financial market and economic curiosity, with a long-term ambition to becoming a Portfolio Manager or Trader.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail is required.
  • Eagerness to improve the way processes are being performed.
  • Adaptable with the ability to manage projects independently, while working in a team environment.
  • Strong financial and computer literacy skills.
  • Programming skills, including Python, SQL, or MATLAB, are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with visualization software (Tableau or PowerBI) is an asset.
  • Experience with Bloomberg is an asset but is not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including the dealer community, back office, middle office, risk, and technology.
