Position - Addictions Counsellor/Case Manager
Job Description:
Addictions Counsellor/Case Manager is responsible for facilitating/co-facilitating Talbot House Programs, individual counselling sessions, resident intakes evaluations, and follow ups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The AC/CM collaborates with the Director in facilitating programs, reviews, program evaluations, intake interviewing and recommendations. The AC/CM person is responsible for residential programming and resident admission and discharge in conjunction with the Director. The AC/CM may be required to attend Board Meetings when requested.
Program Delivery:
Facilitate resident program and service delivery and maintain safety. The AC/CM assists the Director with program design, participates in resident intake, admission and discharge and provides case management. In these matters, the AC/CM works collegially with the Director. In partnership with the Director, is responsible for program evaluation and assists in maintaining a positive, healthy community environment. The AC/CM monitors medical needs of resident and dispenses medications.
Human Resources:
In consultation with the Director the AC/CM is responsible for:
- Supervision of volunteers
- Providing orientation for all new staff and volunteers
- Provide leadership with client-focused programs
- Assist in the scheduling of employee staff shifts
- Schedule regular staff meetings
- Monitoring of policy and programs to protect the Health and Safety of staff and residents
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
- BSW, BA, or equivalent degree in health related field (experience will be considered)
- Minimum three to five years experience with an emphasis on addictions and mental health issues within this sector.
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Working knowledge of Addictions Community.
- Knowledge of addictions issues, treatment, and recovery
- Knowledge of 12 Step Recovery Programs
- Knowledge of Pharmacology including recognizing adverse effects of medication
- Ability to work in collegial style with the Director
- Strong & Effective Leadership Skills
- Computer Skills
- Emergency First Aid
- Strong Interpersonal Skills
- Communication Skills both Written and Oral
- Adult Education Background
- Effective Conflict Resolution Skills
- Ability to Prepare and Present Written and Oral Reports.
- Work with Clients with addictions experiencing mental health issues.
- Work with Clients on probation, paroled and other.
- Work in high stress environment where they will at times be dealing with clients will demonstrate unhealthy behaviors.
