Summary

This is a highly influential and challenging senior leadership role, vital for maintaining in-house intellectual property, driving the delivery of the existing and future work programs, and ensuring the expected, and increasingly higher, service levels for business-critical applications. This position is crucial to the evolution of the support model, as we strategically transition more functions in-house and reduce our reliance on external vendors. As a Senior Solution Architect specializing in infrastructure, you will provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and hands-on expertise to design, implement, and maintain the robust and scalable infrastructure underpinning the O2A platform within our OpenShift environment. This will involve deep understanding and extensive hands-on experience supporting the underlying Oracle systems, including Bell's customized implementations of Siebel, Analytics, OSM, and SOA. You will be a key decision-maker, influencing the strategic direction of the platform's infrastructure and ensuring its alignment with Bell's overall technology strategy. You will also play a key role in coordinating and collaborating with the existing offshore team, and potentially guiding its future expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Infrastructure Planning & Architecture: Develop and maintain the long-term infrastructure strategy for the O2A platform, aligning it with Bell's broader IT roadmap. This includes capacity planning, technology selection, and architectural design for high availability, scalability, and security within our OpenShift environment. This requires a comprehensive understanding of the infrastructure needs of Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA, including their interdependencies and performance characteristics.
  • OpenShift Modernization & Optimization: Lead the optimization and modernization of the O2A platform's infrastructure within our OpenShift environment, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to business operations. This includes designing and implementing OpenShift-based infrastructure solutions, leveraging automation for Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA, considering their specific requirements and potential challenges during migration.
  • DevOps Transformation & Automation: Champion the adoption of DevOps best practices throughout the infrastructure lifecycle. This includes automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes using tools including but not limited to Gitlab, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, OpenShift Pipelines and various OpenSource specialty offerings. Drive continuous improvement in the team's CI/CD pipeline and infrastructure automation capabilities for Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA, ensuring efficient and reliable deployments.
  • Application & Infrastructure Optimization: Collaborate with application development teams to optimize application performance and resource utilization. Identify and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks, ensuring optimal performance and scalability of the O2A platform within OpenShift, specifically for Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA. This includes performance tuning, capacity planning, and proactive monitoring - with a detailed understanding of the implementation and capability of each - engaging with other teams such as Dynatrace to do so.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust security measures throughout the infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements within the OpenShift environment. This includes designing and implementing security controls, vulnerability management, and incident response plans for Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA, considering their unique security vulnerabilities and requirements.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of complex infrastructure issues, leveraging monitoring tools like ELK, Dynatrace, and others. Follow up with Ops team for, and review, post-incident analyses to identify root causes and implement preventative measures for Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA. This includes deep diagnostic skills within the Oracle application stack and a thorough understanding of Bell's specific customizations.
Long Description
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior team members, both onshore and offshore, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate effectively with external vendors, ensuring alignment with Bell's technical standards and service level agreements.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Maintain comprehensive documentation of infrastructure architecture, design, and operational procedures. Actively contribute to knowledge sharing and training initiatives within the team, including the offshore component.
  • Offshore Team Coordination: Collaborate effectively with the existing offshore team, providing guidance and support. Contribute to the strategic planning and potential expansion of the offshore team.
Critical Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior architect role within a large-scale enterprise environment, preferably a major Canadian Telco. Extensive hands-on experience supporting and administering Bell's customized implementations of Oracle's Siebel, OSM, and SOA is mandatory. Deep understanding of their architecture, performance characteristics, security considerations, and the specific customizations implemented by Bell is crucial.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale OpenShift infrastructure projects, including designing and implementing OpenShift-native architectures for complex applications, specifically those built on Oracle technologies and incorporating significant customizations.
  • Extensive experience with DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, OpenShift Pipelines). Experience automating deployments and configurations for Oracle applications, particularly those with custom configurations, is a significant advantage.
  • Deep understanding of networking, security, and database technologies. Profound expertise in Oracle databases is essential as this role includes the ability to perform some DBA backup functions as necessary.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL framework and incident management processes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, including experience managing and mentoring geographically dispersed teams.
  • Oracle certifications related to Siebel, OSM, and/or SOA are highly desirable. Red Hat Certified Architect is also a strong asset.
  • Ability to work in Agile delivery methodology is also mandatory.
Additional Requirements

This is a highly impactful and rewarding opportunity to shape the future of Bell's critical infrastructure. If you are a highly skilled and motivated Senior Solution Architect with a proven track record of success in leading complex infrastructure projects and a deep understanding of Oracle technologies, particularly Bell's customized implementations, we encourage you to apply.
