Our Facilities team members function as enterprise asset managers of all Eastlink buildings (electronic, depots, retail, and offices), building systems, grounds and roads are accountable to ensure investment optimization; delivering the desired results with the lowest investment, while fully supporting the business objectives and priorities. As asset managers this function group must maintain existing facilities, plan, and develop new facilities or facility improvements to support network resilience and business growth.

Reporting to the Senior Capital Project Manager, the Specialist, Building Electricity will be responsible for planning capacity and infrastructure projects for various sites/buildings nationally. They will work in collaboration with the Facilities team and other groups to provide reliable building systems and power growth that supports Eastlink’s network to meet capacity and operational requirements. The Specialist, Building Electricity assesses the need for sustaining capital related to building systems and monitors the growth in building space, cabinet space and power.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and forecast space and power capacity growth requirements
  • Allocate head end and transport floor space and cabinet space
  • Create and update head end floor plan CAD drawings and equipment rack elevation drawings.
  • Determine building systems growth costs and initiate capital approvals
  • Plan head end equipment installs and power/HVAC upgrades
  • Develop project work plans, safety plans, equipment cutovers, schedules, and Gantt charts
  • Evaluate, select, and procure building system equipment from multiple equipment vendors.
  • Manage the life cycle of building systems (power plants, batteries, generators, HVAC, and building structure) so that their capacity and integrity are sustained throughout the life of the asset
  • Determine opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Coordinate with other service planners and operation managers to ensure building infrastructure meet service and operational requirements
  • Ability to access construction sites is a mandatory requirement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Five or more years of industry experience related experience in building power management and working with fire, electrical and building codes
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and provide solutions (including assessment of technical advantages, risks, and associated costs)
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Ability to work in collaborative independent team environment
  • Maintain technical expertise
  • Experience in the Telecommunication field would be an asset
  • Project management experience would be an asset
  • An understanding of Engineering Economics would be an asset
  • Ability to travel including a valid passport
  • Valid driver license and access to a personal vehicle
