In response to the increasing challenges faced by physicians and in support of their needs, NL Health Services is dedicated to the development and implementation of a robust Physician Wellness Program that addresses the root causes of burnout while fostering a sustainable, supportive work environment.
We are seeking an experienced physician with a strong interest in physician health and wellness to lead the creation and execution of a provincial Physician Wellness Program. Experience working in the area of occupational health and wellness would be considered an asset. In this role, the CWO will collaborate closely with the Director of Physician Wellness/Retention, medical leadership, wellness committees, and key stakeholders both within NLHS and provincially and nationally to ensure the holistic well-being of physicians across our healthcare system. The CWO will play a pivotal role in enhancing work-life balance, promoting mental health and wellbeing, and cultivating a culture of psychological safety within the healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Provincial Physician Wellness Program, ensuring alignment with organizational values and goals.
- Establish and oversee Physician Wellness Committees within each regional zone to promote wellness initiatives at the local level.
- Perform data-driven analysis to assess the well-being of physicians and inform program development, ensuring interventions are evidence-based and tailored to needs.
- Collaborate with Human Resources . Medical Services, the Medical Staff Associations and other support services to optimize wellness resources and initiatives available to physicians.
- Build and sustain a network of wellness champions and representatives across various organizational levels, ensuring broad engagement and support.
- Monitor and evaluate wellness metrics using best practices and evidence-based approaches, ensuring program effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Provide regular updates to executive leadership, highlighting key wellness metrics, progress, and areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the development of wellness education and professional development programs, organizing events and initiatives to promote physician well-being.
- Advocate for systemic change within the organization, ensuring a supportive and healthy work environment for all healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
Medical degree with eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Experience in healthcare provider wellness (particularly in physician health, mental well-being, and burnout prevention) is an asset.
Proven track record in
leadership roles focused on wellness programming, healthcare management, or organizational development.
Exceptional
communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of
best practices in wellness program evaluation and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Knowledge of
change management or leading organizational transformation could also be an asset, as it shows the ability to implement large-scale wellness initiatives.
Remuneration:
Compensation will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Hours of Work:
40 Hours bi-weekly as this is a permanent part-time position.
