As part of the Advanced Reactor Development (ARD) team, the Engineer V (Civil) provides engineering and technical support in the civil/structural discipline in the deployment of new nuclear builds at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station site.

Key functions include:

  • Provide civil/structural engineering technical expertise/knowledge (Subject Matter Expert) as part of being an "Informed Customer" for the ARD team. This includes, but is not limited to, providing oversight and reviewing assessments, reports, drawings, specifications, etc. from a civil/structural perspective prepared by external companies (3rd party).
  • Prepare Scopes of Work, Request for Proposals, Purchase Orders & Change Orders for assessments and studies by external companies (3rd party) in support of the deployment of new nuclear builds.
  • Provide civil/structural engineering support preparing/writing technical assessments and studies by the ARD team (in-house) in support of the deployment of new nuclear builds.

Our ideal teammate will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer in good standing within the Province of New Brunswick
  • Eight years of engineering (with five in the area of civil/structural) work-related experience following graduation
  • Specialized expertise in one or more of the following, such as:

o civil/structural design of concrete and steel structures

o design and drawing review (concept, preliminary, detailed)

o loading analysis

o radiation shielding/barriers

o containment structures

o specification, technical requirement, and scope of work development

o construction

o geotechnical

o seismic

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as:

o National Building Code of Canada

o CSA A23.3 - Design of Concrete Structures

o CSA S16 - Design of Steel Structures

o CSA N291 - Requirements for Nuclear Safety-Related Structures

o CSA N287.4 - Construction, Fabrication, and Installation Requirements for Concrete Containment Structures for Nuclear Power Plants

If no candidate is identified who meets the specified criteria for the Engineer V position above, preference will be given to candidates who meet the following qualifications and will be considered for classification as an Engineer I-IV.

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Applied Science in civil/structural discipline
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer or Member in Training in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Four years of engineering (with three in the area of civil/structural) work-related experience following graduation
  • Specialized expertise in one or more of the following, such as:

o civil/structural design of concrete and steel structures

o design and drawing review (concept, preliminary, detailed)

o loading analysis

o radiation shielding/barriers

o containment structures

o specification, technical requirement, and scope of work development

o construction

o geotechnical

o seismic

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as:

o National Building Code of Canada

o CSA A23.3 - Design of Concrete Structures

o CSA S16 - Design of Steel Structures

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

Due to security requirements at Canadian Nuclear facilities, the successful candidate will require a Site Access Security Clearance which includes verification of background information, references, a Criminal Record Name Check and a Canadian Security Intelligence Service security recommendation.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
