Demands, duties, qualifications Duties: Reporting to the Manager of Hospital and Clinical Services, the incumbent will provide clinical expertise and consultation to staff on case management decisions and intervention based upon best practice and is the first point of contact for Social Workers for clinical consultation. The successful candidate develops policies, procedures, practice standards and guidelines specific to social work practice and provides feedback on behalf of social work professional practice within Patient Services. The clinical caseload for this position is based at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
The incumbent provides recommendations to the Patient Services management team related to standards of practice, scope of practice, training requirements, and resource requirements and planning to support social work practice through their supervising manager and stays current with the latest research and best practices that impact social work practice within Patient Services. The incumbent is responsible to chair and organize 5 professional practice meetings annually and provide ongoing education, orientation and training to students, social assistant workers and social workers within the program and throughout the organization as required. The successful candidate will maintain statistics, clinical efficiency data and complete chart audits as required by the Management Team required to support decision making related to service delivery within the program. As well, the incumbent will participate in ongoing evaluation and research related to social work practice within the Program as required. This position is the lead social work practice consultant for the Adult Protection Program within Patient Services. In addition to the above duties this position has a clinical caseload which is at least 80 percent of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the social work programs and services provided by Patient Services including program planning and development, supervision, leadership and professional consultation, financial and materials management, assistance in recruitment and hiring, waitlist management, education of social work students (bachelor and master levels), strong communication skills, knowledge of quality and risk management, performance of clinical duties of a Social Worker as well as the delegation of work to Social Assistance Workers.
A Master of Social Work Degree from an approved School of Social Work and registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers. Experience in an Acute Health Care setting is also required.
