OPERATIONS MANAGER
Tropical Shipping of Canada provides weekly container service from Canada to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Operating state-of-the-art facilities in select seaside ports to meet our customer's freight-shipping needs. The successful candidate will be responsible to manage all marine, logistics and maintenance activities for the Canadian operation. This includes overseeing the safe and efficient transportation of cargo imported or exported, along with managing the Port operation for both vessel activity and equipment maintenance requirements.
The position will be located in our Saint John, NB office.
Specific duties:
- Manages logistics, marine terminal, depots and rail operations including vessel turnaround, performance and planning.
- Manages all vendor service agreements and contracts.
- Manages trucking dispatches and responsible for vendor performance, vendor selection and interchange agreements.
- Supervises the development of personnel through performance reviews, coaching, work group activities and training.
- Responsible for budget activities and third party billing.
- Compiles reports and ensures departmental labour utilization, productivity, and materials and equipment management.
- Manages equipment inventory levels to meet requirements and oversees repairs, inventory control of parts and materials and procurement management.
- Compiles information on potential cargo claims and adheres to procedures to eliminate claims.
- Communicates with other departments to resolve problems or concerns related to equipment damage and maintenance.
- Ensures proper procedures are followed in logistics, maintenance, refrigeration and operations with freight handling equipment.
- Primarily domestic travel will be required.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills along with a strong operations background with management experience. As well, the ideal candidate will have:
- Associate degree in Marine/Logistics or equivalent
- 5-7 years experience in shipping, supervisory and leadership including experience in logistics and freight handling equipment.
- Valid local driver's license and passport.
- Must be comfortable in a computerized environment with a working knowledge of MicroSoft Office programs.
