Job Summary

The Surgical Services Program of NL Health Services invites expressions of interest for a full-time fee-for-service orthopaedic surgeon for the Eastern Region specializing in spinal surgery. Physician must be comfortable with complex elective and trauma spine surgery at the time of hiring.

The successful candidate will join an established group of orthopaedic surgeons in an academic setting. On-call coverage is required and shared within the group (1:12).

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidates may be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship (ie: teaching). The ideal candidate will join a dynamic and enthusiastic team and will be expected to have strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills in order to function as consultants to clinicians, laboratory and academic staff.

To be considered candidates must hold a medical degree and have certification by the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (or equivalent) and fellowship sub-specialty training in spinal surgery. Advanced degree (Masters or PHD) not required but agreement to complete in a mutually agreed upon timeframe may be. Eligible candidates must be able to obtain and maintain license to practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) in General Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Colorectal surgery at an accredited institution

Remuneration: Remuneration is competitive and in accordance with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association Memorandum

of Agreement and MCP Fee Schedule. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing their own administrative support.
