About Us

As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, the Digital Health division provides quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers, and health system decision makers. Through collaboration with the health system, we support the development of data and technical standards, maintain key health databases, carry out analytics and evaluation, and support health research. We support healthcare within Newfoundland and Labrador, including patients and communities through the delivery of information technology (IT) and digital health services applied in the healthcare system to provide quality care. Our mandate includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record as well as other provincial clinical information programs, including the change management required to support adoption by end user clinicians.

About the Role

The Interface Analyst will support the coordination and management of the interconnectivity of our Health Information System with external systems. The Interconnect Analyst will have a strong understanding of healthcare information systems and experience with implementation projects. From an interface perspective, they are primary support contact for the interfaces that they are assigned to. They will coordinate the analysis, technical design, and all issue triage necessary to implement and support their assigned interfaces. From a conversion perspective they will coordinate the analysis, technical design, and triage issues as necessary to implement and support their assigned conversion/archiving activities.

This role is responsible for:

  • Managing the entire cycle of interface application development, including analysis, design, specification, implementation, go-live, and support
  • Working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and third-party application experts to determine the business needs for interfaces, document the requirements, and configure the interfaces per
  • the requirements.
  • Working with this group to diagnose and resolve interface-related issues, and participating in their projects as needed.
  • Coordinating various interface-specific tasks and activities like testing, build, cutover planning, and go- live by engaging subject matter experts, vendors, and interface engine developers
  • Working with interface engine developers to develop data-translation routines and methods to support HIS's and external systems' data and format needs
  • Driving the interface projects, working with the interface project manager to ensure that results are achieved and deadlines are met
  • Providing proactive support by monitoring live interfaces and collaborating with experts to provide permanent resolutions to problems
  • Managing the entire cycle of conversion program development, including analysis, design, specification, implementation, test, convert, and validate the conversion or archiving
  • Assessing how clean the data files to be converted are and providing recommendations.
  • Working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and third-party application experts to finalize the business needs for interfaces, document the requirements, help select the most appropriate conversion mechanism (HL7, CCD, etc.) and configure the conversions per the requirements. Working with this group to diagnose and resolve conversion-related issues, and participating in their projects as needed.
  • Coordinating various conversion-specific tasks and activities like testing, build, cutover planning, and go- live by engaging subject matter experts and vendors
  • Driving the conversion/archiving projects, working with the interface/conversion manager to ensure that results are achieved and deadlines are met
  • Coordinating application build requirements for conversion across teams
  • Communicating with technical analysts and SMEs
  • Defining the transport method by which extracted source system data will be communicated to HIS
  • Troubleshooting the data transport mechanism
  • Understanding HIS data structures and documenting technical specifications detailing target data elements
  • Providing proactive support by monitoring live interfaces and collaborating with experts to provide permanent resolutions to problems
  • After live, continue to develop an ongoing interface development program (especially as it relates to medical device integration)

Your Experience and Education:

  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Computer Studies.
  • Ongoing knowledge upgrading and enhancement is required to remain current in the field.
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience
  • HIS knowledge in interface/conversion analyst capacity
  • Knowledge of industry standards related to interconnectivity, such as HL7, FHIR, and API integration
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Access, Oracle, PL/SQL, Crystal Reports, Citrix MetaFrame, TOAD, Windows Operating System and Architecture as it applies to production applications, and other Microsoft products such as Word, Excel.

  • Ability to coordinate activities involving multiple players, including vendors, subject matter experts, interface engine developers, and end users, to design, configure, and test interfaces
  • Advanced analytical and programming skills in several software technologies.
  • Communication and time management skills.
