The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of "Community Events Assistant" with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from May 12th to August 22nd, 2025.

The selected candidate will assist the Youth and Community Team Lead summer student with planning, organizing, implementing and supervising community events throughout the summer.

Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing and implementing community events throughout the summer.
  • Design and facilitate all activities to be sensitive to the needs/abilities of the public, meet safety requirements and promote respect for the environment.
  • Assist with the purchasing and preparation of supplies for events.
  • Assist with the design, preparation and distribution of promotional materials such as flyers and posters in the community and through the Town's channels (including Facebook and other social media) to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Foster positive interactions between staff and the public.
  • Offer creative and unique ideas to enhance Community Events in Riverview and engage the public
  • Participate actively in staff orientation, training and meetings.
  • Ensure the Youth and Community Coordinator (or designate) is informed immediately of any major concerns.
  • Accurately and on time complete all forms and reports including incident/accident reports, event reports and budget forms, meeting deadlines provided for said reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of a detailed program report and final inventory and provide to the Community Recreation Coordinator (Youth).
  • Understand and adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview.
  • Always demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members; establish and maintain a good relationship with event participants, the public and co-workers.
  • Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Part II - Job Requirements:

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Currently enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education.
  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and event coordination abilities through work experience, volunteer positions, membership in organizations, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, google applications and other web applications such as ZOOM and Go to Meetings, internet research and social media.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively work with the public.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with Town of Riverview policies, procedures, rules and regulations, an asset.
  • Proof of Workplace First Aid and CPR/AED certification must be provided at least two weeks prior to the position start date.

Part III - Working Conditions:

  • Required to work evenings, weekends and holidays (including Canada Day) during the summer months.
  • ·Required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Required to work for the entire duration of the term of employment.
  • Position is considered summer student employment with a defined term within the summer months.

This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $17.35 for 35 hours per week.
