The Department of Health is seeking an individual to fill a casual opportunity within the Medicare Operations Unit of the Medicare & Physician Services Branch as an Eligibility Officer. This position will work on-site in the downtown Fredericton office.
As an Eligibility Officer, you will be responsible for critical functions related to determining status and eligibility of residents applying for health insurance under New Brunswick Medicare, including:
- Receiving & assessing a large volume of Medicare coverage applications and processing relevant data;
- Using various sources & tools to research and investigate the accuracy of information provided by applicants;
- Interpreting acts, regulations and policies to ensure sound eligibility decisions;
- Administration and safeguarding of New Brunswick residents' Medicare information in the Medicare database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information by adhering to the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act (PHIPAA) and all other applicable Legislation, Regulation or Policy;
- Communication with residents directly by telephone or email as required for the purpose of clarifying personal information or providing information on requirements for Medicare eligibility ;
- Building and maintaining of relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as inter-provincial, federal, and state agencies;
- Participation as a subject matter expert in continuous improvement projects to streamline processes and align with new technologies.
All tasks must be performed with a high degree of accuracy. This work requires a high level of discretion in dealing with confidential information, knowledge of team dynamics, and good communication and interpersonal skills. Candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Essential Qualifications:
- A high school diploma supplemented by a one (1) year post-secondary education in a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Office is required.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

Salary: $1,816 to $2,205 bi-weekly (ASL 4)
