The School Lunch Association (SLA) is a registered charity dedicated to ensuring every child has access to a hot, nutritious lunch, regardless of their family's financial situation. Serving over 6,700 meals daily across 43 schools in Newfoundland, they take pride in their non-stigmatizing, inclusive program that fosters the well-being of students in communities.
About the Role:
The School Lunch Association is seeking a highly motivated and organized Operations Coordinator to oversee daily kitchen operations across multiple school sites. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth, efficient processes that deliver high-quality meals to students. You'll lead a dynamic team, manage complex logistics, and contribute to a meaningful mission that positively impacts the lives of thousands of children.
What you'll be doing:
- Daily Operations Management: Supervise kitchen sites and staff, ensuring seamless operations. Handle staffing needs, including filling gaps due to absences or emergencies. Respond to food shortages, equipment issues, and health and safety concerns. Coordinate timely orders for milk, bread, and other supplies.
- Menu Development and Product Sourcing: Design menus in line with the Government of NL's school food guidelines. Test and source new products while developing recipes and workflow charts.
- Procurement and Scheduling: Work closely with our Operation Mangers and Procurement Manager to assist with weekly procurement of food and supplies, ensuring timely delivery. Develop and maintain staff schedules, providing adequate coverage for all sites.
- Site and Equipment Management: Conduct assessments for new kitchen sites and oversee start-ups. Manage equipment maintenance and track school lunch assets.
- Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Coordinate routine safety inspections and workplace incident investigations.
- Staff Training and Development: Deliver online and in-person training on OHS, Food Safety, WHMIS, and First Aid. Support new site start-ups and train new staff.
- HR Management: Oversee recruitment, performance evaluations, and employee relations for a team of 85-100 staff members.
- Communication and Customer Service: Liaise with school administrators, staff, and parents to address and resolve concerns. Provide exceptional customer service to maintain trust and satisfaction.
- Flexibility and Travel: Travel frequently between schools to ensure consistency in operations and quality. Maintain a flexible schedule to address the varying needs of different sites.
What you'll bring:
- Education & Experience: Red Seal Cook certification. Minimum 3-5 years of management experience in a food service environment.
- Skills: Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive, including tools for scheduling, payroll, and tracking.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of food safety standards, menu planning, and supply chain logistics.
- Requirements: Must have own vehicle, valid driver's license and the ability to pass criminal and vulnerable sector checks.
