JOB SUMMARY:
Normally from Sunday of the Easter Weekend the position will be designated Utility 6 and report to the Service Foreman of Fields and Arenas.
Normally from Sunday of the Thanksgiving Weekend the position will be designated Utility 2 and report to the Service Foreman of Fields / Arenas or the Operations Manager of the 4 Plex.
Duties and work are related to the operation and maintenance of Arena/4-Plex and turf and sport field maintenance on all facilities associated with the Parks Department of the City of Moncton

EDUCATION:
- Graduation from Grade 12 or equivalent
- Must have one of the following designations:
- Possess a Diploma in Horticulture, Golf Course Management, or Turfgrass Management from a recognized college or university and a minimum of 2000 hours of work experience specifically related to Athletic Field Maintenance.
- A Certificate in Horticulture, Golf Course Management, or Turfgrass Management from a recognized college or university and a minimum of 5000 hours of work experience specifically related to Athletic Field Maintenance
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have two (2) seasons experience in turf maintenance on traditional and sand-based fields to include fertilization, topdressing, aerating, overseeding, irrigations system controls and repairs as well as, grooming and lining.
- Must have experience in the maintenance of baseball infields to include field conditioning, grooming practices, building and maintaining pitching mounds, batter's boxes and installation of bases.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) seasons of experience in the maintenance and operation of artificial turf fields to include: grooming, brushing, infill management, compaction testing and set up and maintenance of related field infrastructure.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (TO BE OBTAINED AND/OR DEMONSTRATED DURING TRIAL PERIOD):
- Ability to follow written instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to fill out reports.
- Able to work with mobile technology.
- Ability to operate machinery such as Zambonis, tractors with various implements.
- Zamboni operator training.
- Must obtain NB Pesticide Applicators License (D1) within trial period.
LANGUAGE:
- English essential.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- The position requires a person with proven people skills, experience and diplomacy in dealing with the public.
- Must obtain and maintain NB Pesticide Applicators License (D1) and Certified IPM Turf Practitioner
OTHER:
- Have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license
CONDITIONS OF WORK:
- All employees must comply with Council and Corporate adopted policies. (Ex. Attendance Management, Respectful Workplace and Health and Safety etc.).
- Must obtain and maintain NB Pesticide Applicators License (D1) and Certified IPM Turf Practitioner.
- Hours of work shall be according to article 23.01(A) for summer months and article 23.01 (B) variable shifts during the winter months and the employee may be required to work weekends and holidays.
- The work will require supervision of work crews, providing advice and guidance to workers, and reporting job progress and details.
- Work requires contact with employees in their own work group, employees of other departments, contractors and the general public. Occasional contact and working with contractors when performing work for the City of Moncton.
- Work will require to be without direct supervision.
- Work requires considerable physical effort and work in an outside environment.
- Works requires occasional exposure to disagreeable conditions.
- The work requires a very high level of attention or mental-sensory coordination with sustained periods of concentration.
