The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of Engineering Assistant with the Department of Engineering and Public Works from May 12, 2025, to August 22, 2025.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Engineering staff with a variety of engineering tasks including inspection, patching, traffic counts and surveying.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors which may include exposure to inclement weather, vehicular traffic, and occupational hazards on municipal streets and construction sites.

Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assist with the placement and analysis of electronic vehicle counters.
  • Assist with survey work applying basic survey knowledge to establish grades, staking of street line information, staking of curb cut openings and maintaining clear, concise records of field information.
  • Support the technicians for the survey of upcoming street reconstruction.
  • Required to inspect asphalt patching of utility cuts and general street patching and assist in various utility-based activities.
  • Layout and pickup of lane markings, verifications of town master as-built and update in AutoCAD as necessary,
  • Perform intrusive inspection of manholes with the technician, recording final measurements of completed work for completion of As-Built plans, survey pickup with GPS existing Town infrastructures for the Town GIS (geographic information system).
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors which may include exposure to inclement weather, vehicular traffic, and occupational hazards on municipal streets and construction sites.
  • Adhere to all safe work practices and procedures at all times and wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.
  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with the general public and co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Parks and Recreation Facilities.

Part II - Job Requirements:

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time Engineering Student, and successful completion of second year university studies in Civil Engineering or successful completion of first year Community College studies in Civil Engineering Technology (Highway and Municipal);
  • Experience using GIS technology would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of MS Office, an asset.
  • Own a pair of Grade 1 footwear with sole protection that conforms to CSA standard CAN/CSA-Z195-M92, "Protective Footwear" or a standard offering equal protection.
  • Valid Class 5 NB Driver's License.

Part III - Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
  • Exposure to vehicular traffic and occupational hazards on municipal streets and construction sites; required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Position is considered student employment with a defined term of 15 weeks (May 12 to August 22, 2025).
  • Working hours will be 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday, (37.5 hours per week), extended working hours may be required depending on the needs of the department.

This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $18.00 for 37.50 hours per week.
