The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of By-law Enforcement Student with the Department of Development & Legislative Services-By-law Enforcement Office
from: June 2nd to August 29th, 2025. With the possibility to start a week later.
Candidates must also be able to gather evidence in clear, concise, and proper formats while implementing established procedures to follow through with violations via the Provincial Court systems. The work required in this position involves direct and sometimes adverse contact with the public. There is a requirement to exercise considerable tact, diplomacy, and fairness in dealing with the public.
Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities
- Patrol various parks on a regular basis,
- Watch for dogs that are not wearing a leash/harness (in all areas, including recreational parks),
- Look for garbage not properly contained, or placed out at wrong times,
- Visually patrol school parks,
- Assist other departments / agencies as requested and if time permits,
- Report apparent violations of other Laws to the RCMP,
- Assist public with inquiries, and collect information from the public,
- Record and report any damaged road signs or streetlights not functioning properly,
- Prepare proper notes, report writing, official document completion,
- Take complaints, investigating, complete occurrence reports,
- Other duties that may arise concerning By-Law Enforcement or as directed by the supervisor.
Part II - Job Requirements:
- Age between 16 and 30-year-old
- Current student in a program such as the Justice Preparatory Program, or another equivalent course in law and security, or in another related field and/or returning in the fall.
- Good working knowledge of all office equipment as well as Microsoft Office programs.
- Must hold a Class 5 NB driver's license or equivalent capable of driving alone and at night.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to accept lines of authority, promote harmony and cooperate with co-workers, superiors, and the public.
- Must be able to handle difficult people and stressful situations.
- Must have working knowledge of management systems and techniques and computer systems for proper record keeping.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and available for staggered work hours during the night.
Part III - Working Conditions:
- Required to work some evenings, some weekends, and holidays (including Canada Day).
- May be required to work outdoors and may be exposed to elements of nature, extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
- Position is considered student employment with a defined term.
This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $17.00 for 35 hours per week.
