Freeman Lumber is currently seeking a Woodlands Operations Planner who can plan and oversee woodland operations on private lands in Western Nova Scotia. The Woodland Operations Planner plays a vital role in managing all aspects of timber harvesting, road construction, woodland management, etc. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Woodland Operations Planner role involves extensive fieldwork and direct involvement with woodland operations and private landowners.
Responsibilities include:
Timber cruise and plan operations for harvesting and road building contractors while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Grow and build long-term working relationships with forest landowner.
Develop management plans for a range of landowners.
Use digital tools to schedule all aspects of operations including road building, silviculture and harvesting.
Recommend different harvest prescriptions and woodland regimes using experience and incorporating landowner values.

Proven record of being able to work in a forestry field environment.
Ability to multi-task in a complex operation.

Computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs
Work with minimal supervision
Must be physically capable of bending, reaching, lifting, and able to work in external environments, (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
Qualifications:
· Strong Work ethic and an enjoyment of working outdoors
· Completion of post-secondary education in a forestry or environmental science program would be an asset
· Forestry operations experience considered an asset
· Valid driver's license: own vehicle is an asset
Compensation:
· $62,000 - $68,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Relocation:
· Relocation assistance maybe provided as required. A company housing is available close to the mill location.
Hours of Work:
· Typically, Monday to Friday 7 am - 5 pm
· Weekend work on occasion
